We do not take your word for it, and we do not take a screenshot of your app as proof. If your limits need a temporary bump for the value of the car, that increase typically runs $2 to $10 per day and is often free. If your policy will not work for some reason, we offer supplemental coverage as a fallback, starting at $100 per day.

On Turo, a host can cancel. The platform will help you find another listing, but the specific car you planned around is gone, and on a Saturday in May in the DC area, the replacement options thin out fast. You are also depending on one person's schedule for handoff and return.

Mileage, deposits, delivery, and fees

Mileage

Turo hosts set their own daily limits and their own per-mile overage rates. Some are generous, some are tight, and the number is buried in the listing. We include 100 miles per day on every rental. If you know you will drive more, you can pre-purchase extra mileage blocks, which cost less than paying overage after the fact. Overage rates vary by vehicle, so we quote them when you book instead of publishing a single number that would be wrong for half the fleet.

Deposits

Turo holds depend on the host and the protection plan. Our security deposit is refundable and ranges from $250 to $1,500 depending on the car. You know the number before you commit.

Delivery

Some hosts deliver. Many do not. We deliver anywhere within 50 miles of Chantilly, which covers DC, Arlington, Bethesda, Tysons, Reston, Alexandria, and Dulles arrivals. The delivery fee depends on the vehicle. Picking up at the showroom is always an option.

Fees you can plan around

Our cleaning fee is $150 and only applies if the car comes back dirty. Our late return fee is $250. Both are published, so there is no reading a host's fine print at midnight. We accept card, cash, wire, Zelle, and Venmo, and we offer Affirm and Klarna financing. We do not accept cryptocurrency.

The chauffeur option Turo does not have

Turo is self-drive only. That rules it out for anyone under 21, for guests who want to drink at the event, and for the wedding couple who would rather be in the back seat with a photographer than behind the wheel.

Our chauffeur service starts at $149 per hour with a three-hour minimum, and there is no security deposit. Price honesty: what the premium buys

We will say it plainly. If you want a Mustang convertible or an entry-level BMW for a Saturday drive, and you are comfortable with the host model, Turo will probably cost less. We are not the budget option in this market and we do not try to be.

• Pick Turo if you want a common model, you are flexible on the exact car, you have read the host's mileage and fee terms, and a cancellation would be an inconvenience rather than a disaster.
• Pick a company if the date cannot move, the car is the point, you want your own insurance confirmed in advance, you need delivery to a hotel or venue, you might want a chauffeur, or you would like to see the car before you pay.
